![]() The biggest limitation may be character progression. We'd like to avoid reprogramming everything again, and have to create a simple system for the Dungeon Maker." "We have a very complex dialogue and narrative system in our campaign. "If the community wants it we can look into it," says Girard. In the current iteration, you can add pop-up descriptive text or dialogue to any object or NPC, but there's no way to create a fully interactive NPC with a dialogue tree, or shop with merchants or vendors. One limitation in the Dungeon Maker is NPC interactions. "I don't doubt that players will be creating their own (unsupported) content for use in the Dungeon Maker." "There are already several modders on Nexus Mods who have created new classes, subclasses, and ancestries for Solasta," says Zhang. On the flip side, it's not currently possible to create monsters, items, or props outside what's in the game, though Solasta includes a robust bestiary and magic item database, and has several planned tilesets. Instead of people spending two days to understand the tool and then maybe making a dungeon, the barrier to entry is low enough that everyone can have fun making dungeons right away." "Keeping it simple has been a core pillar of the Dungeon Maker design. ![]() "We could've implemented full modding tools and SDK, but it was so complex that few people would use it," says Zhang. "That being said, we're looking at adding more verticality, like pits and platforms, or staircases to elevate entire rooms."Īccessibility has been an important mantra for the Dungeon Maker through its implementation. "I went for a flat interface for the Dungeon Maker because when you go 3D, you lose 50% of the audience, and I wanted the editor to be open to as many people as possible," says Girard. With the attractive and intuitive UI (which fans of Amplitude Studios' Endless series will quickly recognize), it's easy to label a door as locked, or secret, or trapped (or all three), and use a sliding bar to determine the skill levels it takes to detect any traps and pick locks.Īlthough the main campaign frequently features levels and locations with sharp elevation changes, including cliffs, towers, and bridges, the Dungeon Maker is keeping things old-school with a 2D top-down visualization that resembles classic pen-and-paper graph paper dungeons. Rooms are available in several different sizes and shapes, and include pre-furnished blueprints, as well as empty rooms ready to be filled with decorative props, as well as monsters, traps, and treasure.Įach room features a number of openings that can instantly become doorways when another room is placed beside it. Like using Lego blocks and pieces to construct your dungeon."ĭuring a private demo, I watch Emile Zhang, community manager for Tactical Adventures, throw together a quick series of rooms using the Necropolis tileset, which looks like a standard crypt. "We wanted to have a tool that's even simpler than Neverwinter Nights' creator, something more like LittleBigPlanet. But then, I'm not sure if having Rosalina and Daisy would be too many princesses in one playthrough? It does seem like it would be pretty cool, though."Not everyone is a game developer-it's a full-time job," says Girard. Of course, you could also replace Geno with Rosalina. I could see Nabbit maybe replacing Mallow (particularly given how you meet Mallow, it could be fun seeing Nabbit and Croco interacting, given their many obvious similarities). That could be fun!įor other characters in a Luigi playthrough, you could obviously replace Peach with Daisy, and I'm thinking Kamek could be the stand-in for Bowser. But in terms of story, maybe Luigi's adventure takes place just after Mario leaves, and characters reference Mario just having visited each area just before you. Like maybe it's essentially the exact same game, but harder. Or maybe a post-game area where you actually get to visit Star Road with Geno, maybe even sneaking in a little interaction with Rosalina?Īnother idea I feel like could be fun, without being a major amount of work, would be something like having a "Luigi mode" you could play through. Or maybe adding Yoshi as a legit, optional character. ![]() So, for one thing, adding New Game+ would be a fun addition in and of itself, especially if they could crank the difficulty up. Which, I think the game is more fun from the fun interactions of characters, more than "complex storytelling", but if you're afraid of spoilers, maybe you want to check out now? Honestly, I would've never guessed in a million years we'd ever see a remake of this game! Especially given Nintendo has kind of tried to ignore it ever existing, save for Virtual Console ports.Īnd if it winds up being 100% the same game, start to finish, I'll be perfectly happy!īut also, I feel like it would be pretty awesome if they were able to add a little extra content. ![]()
